Buying a car from China stopped being exotic a long time ago: new and nearly new cars are noticeably cheaper there, and the model range is one of the widest in the world. But the process consists of a dozen stages, and a mistake at any of them costs money. Here is the whole journey, step by step, as it actually looks in 2026.
Step 1. Define a turnkey budget
The classic beginner mistake is comparing the price in a Chinese listing with the price on the local market. The right way is to calculate the turnkey cost: car price + buyout and export paperwork + shipping + customs duty + recycling fee + certification (SBKTS and electronic title) + delivery to your city. Step 2. Choose the car

Pay attention to the trim: Chinese-market versions are often better equipped than export ones, but the infotainment may be Chinese-only.
Step 3. Pre-purchase inspection
Never pay for a car without an independent inspection.
