Top 7 Chinese Electric Cars for Russia and the CIS
Zeekr, BYD, Avatr, Xpeng and NIO: seven electric cars from China that genuinely make sense to import to the CIS — with caveats about winter, charging and range.
China is the world's largest EV market, and electric cars offer the biggest price gap with the CIS. We picked seven models that our clients order most often and that cope well with our conditions. One caveat upfront: range everywhere is quoted per the Chinese CLTC cycle — in real winter driving, subtract 30–40%.
1. Zeekr 001
A five-door shooting brake on Geely's SEA platform and a bestseller among importers. Batteries of roughly 86–100 kWh, AWD in top versions, 0–100 km/h in under 4 seconds. Spacious cabin, rich base trim, adaptive suspension. Downsides — high curb weight and an appetite for wide, expensive tires. We published a detailed review of this model separately.
2. BYD Han EV
BYD's flagship sedan with the signature LFP Blade battery. Lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry tolerates frequent 100% charges better and is considered among the safest. Comfortable suspension and a classic sedan format — a popular "instead of a Camry" choice.
3. BYD Seal
A sporty sedan on e-Platform 3.0 with cell-to-body (CTB) construction. Driver-focused character, RWD and AWD versions. A good option for those who find the Han too large.
4. Avatr 11
A joint project of Changan, Huawei and CATL: a striking coupe-crossover with Huawei electronics and good sound insulation. Rich trims with massage seats and a panoramic roof. Demanding of charging infrastructure quality — it shines on fast stations.
5. Xpeng G6
A tech-heavy midsize crossover with 800-volt architecture: on the right station it charges very quickly. One of the best driver-assistance suites in its class for China, but some ADAS features do not work outside China — factor that in honestly.
6. NIO ET5
A compact premium sedan with NIO's signature feature — swappable batteries. The swap network is unavailable outside China, so pick the big-battery version and treat the car as a regular plug-in EV. Interior quality is on par with European premium brands.
7. Zeekr X
A compact urban crossover on the same SEA platform. Small, agile, fast-charging — an excellent second car for a family. Its price in China is noticeably lower than the 001's.
What to consider before ordering
- Winter. Battery preconditioning and a heat pump are must-haves for northern regions; check availability in the specific trim.
- Charging. You need a slow-charging option at home; fast stations are still concentrated in big cities.
- Firmware and language. Infotainment localization varies: some cars have English, some rely on third-party software. Clarify before buying.
- Recycling fee. For powerful EVs the recycling fee coefficient is tied to power output and can materially affect the final price — request a turnkey calculation.
